As a team of dedicated cyclists, we undertook a study to analyze the shortcomings of the short-lived cycling lane on Bağdat Avenue in Istanbul. Our goal was to develop a systematic guideline for creating sustainable cycling infrastructure, drawing on insights from cities and countries with established cycling cultures. Partnering with Mobycon—one of the world’s most renowned cycling design firms based in the Netherlands—we presented our findings and recommendations to various organizations and municipalities. Through this collaboration, we aimed to inspire a cycling-friendly urban model that addresses the unique challenges and opportunities of Istanbul.
